April
Five
harvests and a closure
This month we trawled and trawled until all the fish were
netted, distributed them to our mothers clubs then closed the farm: the
price of fish in the market has dropped so low that it is now cheaper
to buy them than to raise them.
We are not giving up on fish farming, just putting it
on standby until we can find a pond with water we do not have to purchase,
and waiting for the price of fish to rise again, as it inevitably will.
A ton and a half of thanks to Floyd Jones on behalf of the street children
and abandoned mothers of Trujillo; for he made this project possible.

Our
friends at Emaus Trujillo, the good charity that was started in France,
have been helping us with clothes and things for the children for the past
two years. This month we had the opportunity to pay back some of their kindness
with a truckload of excess computer parts.

This
month we celebrated the birthdays of all our children who turned a year
older during the past 60 days.
With
dances, entertainments, games, contests and lots of sweets we sent them
into another year; ending with presents all around. |

Mathilde
Roch has come from France to help us. Next month she will initiate our first
French language classes.

The
students and teachers of the fourth grade class of St. Marys Primary School
came to meet our children and
to offer their help in gathering clothes and school materials for them.

It
says in rthe Bible that we sometimes receive angels without knowing.
.The
little man seated between our volunteers may have been such a case.
He
appeared at our door wounded, penniless and hungry. He had been travelling
from Huaraz to Ecuador to find work when he was set upon by robbers; they
beat him and took everything he had, including hes identification and the
address of his new employer. We fed him and healed him and when he was well
enough bought him a ticket back to Huaraz. He was quiet and peaceful and
helped as much as he could.. |

Our
new guardian is not a dog
In
mid April Ana Tere was in front of a shop when she heard noises coming
from under a car that was about to pull out. She asked the driver to wait
while she had a look, and out came a baby cat. She brought it to the center
and the children immediately adopted her, giving her the original name
"Kitty". Now the little rascal is watching over everything,
and everyone loves her.

In
April two of our longest serving Peruvian volunteers, Matilde and Zoila
left for other pursuits - we will miss them. Our consellation is the coming
