News
from Bruce Peru, NEWS OF PERU, hope for homeless children
August
If
only our Delicias Shelter had existed when these girls needed it -
We serve free meals in our
comedor to children up to the age of 14. Pictured here are nine girls
who sometimes eat with us.
They
may not look it but they are young enough to eat for free, they are
child prostitutes. Each one has her own tragic tale to tell; usually
begins with repeated rape, then abortion or maternity, then abandonment:
ends with drug addiction and prostitution. We are desparate to catch
these girls before thay are lost and give them the protection and
rehabilitating care of the Delicias Project. We already have the property
and have taken the first small steps in construction, but we urgently
need outside help in order to build the facility.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for
street children and abandoned mothers. But sometimes a friend comes
along who does not fit our demographics; a regular friend who needs
an eye operation and can't pay for it - should we turn him away?
We couldn't.

The
end of last month the public spirited company, CAMPOSOL,
SA gave us another five and a half tons of their premium
avocados to be used in our projects for the poorest children and mothers
in Trujillo. If
you will be kind enough to click on the photograph to the right we
will reveal to you how much good can be derived from the simple avocado. |

The
angels of August.
We
again received three generous donations of good things for the children
this month.
Sharna, our somewhat elegant Londoner gave us 300 soles for
the cghildren, and we are already using it to buy them tickets to
the latest performance of the ballet company. Last but not least
the generous nuns and students of the upper scholl at La Assencion
mage lovely gift boxes filled with sweets and larger gift wrapped
boxes of childrens clothes to be distributed at our next childrens'party..
Thank you all!

When
WaWaWasi came to train 88 mothers to run their new nurseries for the
babies of poor working mothers.
Wawawasi
is one of the best Government run social programs we have encountered
in Peru, and therefore when the local director asked to use our facilities
to train their new workers we gladly let them.
