March
Last
of the Summer Fun
March
is the final month of summer holidays here in the southern hemisphere
and our children made the most of it - we took them to parks, rides, slides,
playgrounds, and the swimming pool. Getting them into good or better schools
has been our mission this month. With each success we've had to come up
with the necessary for tuition, books, uniforms and supplies.
When they came to us some of our children were either
not attending school at all or relegated to classes consigned to students
on whom they have given up hope, merely fulfilling their legal obligation
to keep them in school.

Our
friends at Intervida, the fine Spanish charity, have come through
again, this time with powdered high protien breakefast drink.
Thank you.

Whoever
said summer school has to be boring. When Vilma's classes end the
children don't want to leave. With a combination of tenderness,
fun, a sock puppet and old fashion good teaching she makes them
want to learn. |

In
March we helped Trujillo's Fire Department to become more computerized.
Like us they are volunteers and deserve all the help they can get.

This
year we observed the International Day of the Woman
more
quietly than our 600 woman march of last year. We
invited a sellect number of women to selebrate with us and to participate
in small forums hosted by our doctors, social worker and psychologist. |

Pictured
here is the last dress rehearsal of part of the ballet company's March
production.
.On
the night of the performance the Municipal Theatre was sold out. Although
most of the numbers were presented by students
and not professors or professional company members, as is normally the
case, there were perhaps even more "Bravos"and standing ovations
than usual. This is a testimony to the choreographic and production skills
of Eusabio Rabines and his staff.

Spring
Cleaning at Bruce Perú
A
group of our youngsters, under the direction of Junior - an alum who was
reunited with his family last year, but who returns from time to time
to participate with us - did a thorough spring cleaning of our little
campus.

Transitions
In
March we received a number of new volunteers,
mostly from Peru but also from Germany and the United States. Pictured
here are Doris, a dental technician, and Vilma, our summer school for
kindergarten students.
