How to get from the
airport in Lima to Bruce Peru in Cuzco:
Address: Av. Saphy 661, Cusco (2.5 blocks from main square).
Tel: 255220
1 - (assuming you will spend the first night
in Lima - most international flights arrive too late to catch a palne
or bus to Cuzco until the next day) Reserve a hotel room for
the night. Below are two hotels in the best and safest part of town, which
give our volunteers a discount. Make your reservation via email.
2 - Reserve a taxi to meet you at the airport and take you to your
hotel. We use a safe and reliable taxi - his name is Leonardo Moya. Leonardo
will be waiting for you with your name on a sign when you come out of
customs. Make your reservation directly with him via email: leitomovil@hotmail.com:
Give him your name, say you are a Bruce Peru volunteer, give him your
arrival date, time and flight number. He will charge S/40 to S/50 (roughly US$12-$15, depending on how long he has to wait for your flight to arrive
- this driver only goes to the airport to collect our volunteers) to meet you and take you to your
hotel. The next day the hotel staff will
put you in a safe taxi and give him directions to your bus terminal.
NOTE: If you take a taxi, just any taxi from the airport, DO NOT
PAY THE TAXI UNTIL YOU ARE INSIDE YOUR HOTEL, AND DO IT IN FRONT OF THE
HOTEL STAFF, MAKING CERTAIN THEY ARE PART OF YOUR CONVERSATION WITH THE
TAXI DRIVER!! - the price for a tax waiting in line at the airport should
be S/45 - a volunteer who came in August
2004 and did not understand the local money, got into a taxi waiting in
the line at the airport, outside the hotel he made her pay the equivolent
of $175 If she had paid the driver in the hotel the staff would never
have let the driver get away with this. NOTE 2 - If you reserve
Leonardo and then you do not turn up, you will be billed for $14 - because it means he has come
to the airport and spent 2 hours for nothing.
3-
.If you are flying from Lima to Cuzco - you must
keep in mind that most flights leave very early in the morning (7:AM)
or early afternoon (2:PM). Have your hotel arrange everything so you can
be at the airport on time. You can get flight information HERE
4- .If
you are taking the coach from Lima to Cuzco - Have the
hotel reserve a seat on the bus from Lima to Cuzco. When checking in at
your hotel be certain to (immediately after checking in) ask the
hotel staff to reserve your seat on a bus to Cusco (presumably for the
next day) - this can only be done once you are in Lima (because buses
in Peru require payment within 24 hours).*
5 - The morning after you arrive in Lima and have your bus reservation,
please call us at this number: (044) 9924445 so we can have someone meet
you at the bus terminal in Cuzco.
Note, if the hotel staff can't get you on a Cusco bus, or ask for a seat
on the bus company "Cruz del Sur' it is a little more expensive,
but safe and punctual.
