The
year 2003 in retrospective:
At our city campus we served more than 60,000 meals to street children
and poor people, while our mothers clubs in the barrios served aprox.
400,000. We tought 1900 course hours to children and adults. We
distributed over 10 tones of avocados in the slums; received 33
new volunteers from Europe, Asia, North America, and 28 from Peru.
We constructed enough of the Delicias Shelter for abandoned adolescent
rape victims to be 2/3s of the way to receiving
our first girl.
We gave clothes, health services and education to a wide range of
street children.

In 2004
we plan to open Delicias, do more for child drug adicts, open
our program in Cusco and Ecuador, and recruit 70 new overseas volunteers.

Our two largest Christmas parties ever.
The
first was 7 December for 350 of our children and was hosted by the nuns
and students of Colegio
la Asuncion, Dominica, one of the best porocial schools in Trujillo. It
was originally planned to be for 250 street children, but as word spread
to more of our children the dear nuns kept popping out to purchase more
presents. They and their students were lovely to our children.
The second was held 19 December at our campus, hosted by the Lyons Club,
by the childrens entertainers "Corbatita Show", and by our family
abuse attorney, Maiti and her mother and the Hotel Liberatador. 150 of
our children were again smothered in love and presents. Thank you all.

Volunteer
life at Bruce Peru,
December 2003. This month was
all about racing to complete as much as possible on the Delicias project,
close and convert the adults dining
area
and convert it to children only.
After that it
was a string of Christmas parties and good bye to most of our international
volunteers, who completed their service around Christmas. Next month we
begin receiving new volunteers. |

Project
Day at Delicias Beach.
In
the community where we are building our shelter for abandoned adolescent
rape victims, Delicias Beach, seven kilometers south of Trujillo, we also
conduct outreach programs to help the street children and poor mothers.
In the past we have helped with childrens parties, given food to their
mothers clubsand held a free medical day for sick children. This month
we held both a free clinic for the children and a product evaluation event
to help their mothers clubs hone their skills to the market.

Many
thanks to Matt and Lianne.
A
delightful couple from Cornwall, in the UK, Matt and Lianne, in their
two months with us have contributed as much or more than any two volunteers
ever. Matt took responsibility for our Delicias Shelter construction when
it was a bare patch of ground with a wall in front of it, and when he
left the perimeter was enclosed and a two room residence and bathrooms
were nearly complete.A tireless worker and always a good sport, Matt returned
from the construction site each afternoon, took a shower and was ready
to give English classes to our language academy students in the evenings. While
his wife, Lianne, a professional teacher, and a constant source of love
and laughter to street children and volunteers alike, not only took over
responsibility for our lessons to the street kids, but was the star teacher
in our language academy every evening. They also brought the largest trove
of gifts for the children that we have ever received. Thanks.
